Krupp
German Patent
DRP 46561, “Selbsteinkassirender Schaustellungsapparat”, Application 14
July 1888, issued 3 April 1889

is for a coin operated stereoscope viewer.  Schneider patents the coin
mechanism and the arangement of stereoscope views. The machine uses
daylight reflected onto the stereo cards by a mirror at the top, and the
cards are moved by two spherical knobs at either side of the box, which
looks like it would stand on top of a table or bar. It really all looks
like nothing so much as the (much later) Taxiphot or several other
exhibition machines.
The patent is granted to “Eberhard Schneider in Oberhausen”, a town in the
general Ruhr Valley. There were Krupp plants in this town. But this was
not a Krupp patent, and clearly shows Schneider’s early interest in
showbusiness.
